Adventure playgrounds are a series of obstacles just inches off the ground. A typical obstacle would be walking across a log or crawling through a concrete tunnel. Adult supervision is required; however, there is no training necessary. We have adventure playgrounds at Camp Whippoorwill, Shantituck, Houchens and Stem.
Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana believes that a well rounded girl should get outdoors for some adventures. We have council sponsored programs offered at all our seven camp properties and approved outdoor venues throughout the council that will get you out and experiencing the outdoors at whichever stage of experience you may need. From a beginner who is wanting to get out and hike around one of our easier trails to a seasoned backpacker who wants to travel on the Appalachian Trail for a week, and everyone in between. You will have many opportunities to get out of your comfort zone and try new things from looking for bugs on a nature hike to skateboarding to exploring a cave. Each program is facilitated by a council staff, council volunteer, or an expert third-party partner which ensures safety and experience satisfaction. All Outdoor Experiences (OE) programs are designed for Girl Scouts to come as an individual or with their troops, so you can make the program work for you.
As we work on improving access to outdoor programming, Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana is not currently taking requests for outdoor facilitators. Please check the latest Event Guide for program opportunities. The guide can be found here.
Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana’s Adventure Program consists of adventure playgrounds, teams courses, high ropes courses, caving, and indoor climbing and bouldering walls. All the activities are experiential and educational. Whether climbing a rock face or helping a troop member through the teams course, each participant will learn something new about themselves and others. There is something in the Adventure Program for all ages and abilities.
