Wilderness Travel is a preparation course on taking girls on a camping trip in a wilderness environment with as little impact on the environment as possible. Training will include use of basic backpacking equipment, lightweight stoves and tents, wilderness hygiene, cooking lightweight non-perishable foods, water treatment, safety, planning, and conditioning. Participants will be carrying gear and food in backpacks to the campsite. Prerequisites for adults to receive authorization to take girls wilderness camping: Camp In and Camp out. Note: This course includes skills needed for the "It's Your Planet-Love It" Journey for Cadettes (the Trailblazing badge) and Seniors (the Adventurer badge). What to bring: participants will receive a letter with information prior to the training. Plan to bring a lightweight sleeping bag; a closed-cell foam sleeping pad is recommended. Backpacks and basic cooking equipment will be provided. Meals: Backpack style lunch, supper, snack, and breakfast included with fee.
