Camp In (Parts A & B, Integrated, 7.5 hours): Camp In prepares leaders to take girls in beginning camping experiences where they have fun in the outdoors, cook simple meals, and stay overnight in buildings with modern conveniences. Camp In can be offered as a single integrated course, or the topics can be divided in two parts; see Camp In A and Camp In B listed below. Total time for Camp In training is 7.5 hours. What to bring: Volunteer Essentials, Safety Activity Checkpoints, and (if you wish) a 3-ring binder for materials you will receive during the class.
Camp In Part A (3 hours): Camp In A will teach the skills needed to prepare girls for day activities that take place outdoors. This course—along with Camp In B—includes basic outdoor programming for day trips as well as some information for overnights in a winterized building in a camp or outdoor setting. Participants will gain knowledge in using Volunteer Essentials, GSUSA’s Safety Activity Checkpoints, as well as guidelines and procedures for troop camping. An introduction to the following concepts will be provided as well: girl readiness, progression, planning, properties, hiking, and emergencies. Camp In A is valid for two years or until you complete Camp In B, whichever comes first. Camp In A authorizes registered Girl Scout adults to take groups/troops on outdoor day activities. This training is available as a face-to-face course during this outdoor training weekend. Note that you also can take Camp In Part A as a home study through your local Program and Learning Center.
Camp In Part B (4.5 hours): Camp In B will teach the skills needed to prepare girls for overnights in winterized buildings, for example Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana properties, state parks, etc. Topics included are: fire safety (preparation and extinguishing), foil and stick cooking, use of charcoal, wood stove operation, safety, and building cleanup. Camp In B is valid for five years or until you complete Camp Out or Outdoor Update, whichever comes first. Camp In B authorizes registered Girl Scout adults to take troops camping in winterized buildings. This training is only available as a face-to-face course. Prerequisite: Camp In A.
