Girls Scouts of Kentuckiana - Cookies
January 1, 2012- Let’s see what a cookie can do!

What can a cookie do?  MORE than you can see! MORE girls, MORE customers, MORE cookies sold, MORE opportunities, MORE motivation, MORE inspiration! Girls in Kentuckiana will have a wide range of new and enhanced methods to reach their customer base this year with great Girl Scout cookies!

From Cookie Club to mobile Apps to online trainings girls will join together and celebrate the 100th Girl Scout anniversary with new and modern methods to promote and market the Girl Scout cookie brand.

The Girl Scout Cookie Program is much more than a fundraiser. It's a fun way for girls of all ages to earn the money that fuels their dreams. And it's a powerful, hands-on leadership and entrepreneurial program where girls learn goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics.

The Girl Scout Cookie Program can lead to bigger things for girls in business, in society and in life. Helping girls dream more, have more opportunities and do more than they ever thought possible.

  • Remember that cookies sell for $3.50 a box and are not to be sold on the Internet (see Safety-Wise rules below).
  • Girls, not adults, should be selling the cookies.
  • Don't forget to write your customers a thank-you note when they order!
  • Remember to encourage recycling of those cartons and boxes.

STELLAR SELLERS
Girls who can reach the super-high goal of selling 2012 or more boxes of cookies may join the Stellar Seller Club and earn fantastic incentive choices! All girls reaching this level will not only receive their incentive options for 1-2011 boxes but will also receive the choice of one of the following: a flat screen HDTV, IPOD Touch, or a day for five to a local amusement park (includes tickets, meal vouchers, and a gas card). Also, a 2012 bar will be awarded to any girl reaching 2012 boxes sold.

MYSTERY HOUSES
Houses throughout the council will be selected as a "Mystery House." Girls are encouraged to try and find a Mystery House on the second Saturday (March 10, 2012) of the additional sales. Any girl who finds a Mystery House will receive a certificate redeemable for a special patch, as well as a chance to win the special "Mystery House Basket" prize.

Gift of Caring
Troops who decide to participate in the Gift of Caring program choose a charitable organization in their community to visit and deliver boxes of Girl Scout Cookies donated by their customers. Troops can designate as their Gift of Caring recipients firefighters, police officers, shelters, and other non-profit organizations that serve our communities. The cost of cookies bought for Gift of Caring is tax deductible. Check your troop level cookie program booklet for more information on the Gift of Caring program.  Check with your Service Center office for information on a “council-wide” Gift of Caring initiative.

Troop Earnings

Troops earn 55 cents from each package of cookies plus possibly qualify for a bonus, which is based on troops averaging 180+ packages per girl.

Is the purchase of Girl Scout Cookies tax-deductible?
No, if the customer keeps the cookies. Individuals who buy Girl Scout Cookies and take the cookies home, or consume them, have purchased a product at a fair market value. For this reason, no part of the price of a box of Girl Scout Cookies used in this way is tax-deductible. Yes, if the customer leaves the cookies with Girl Scouts. Many Girl Scouts ask customers to pay for one or more boxes of cookies for use in their Gift of Caring project. The customers not receiving any Girl Scout Cookies do not benefit directly from paying for them. Those individuals may treat the purchase price of the donated cookies as a charitable contribution. Individuals with specific questions should seek advice from a tax accountant.

Thanks to all the volunteers who help make the Girl Scout Cookie Program great!
