You’re never too young to learn how to manage money and understand the importance of saving and spending wisely. That’s the idea that prompted Jesse Riendeau to develop and implement Money Matters, a curriculum to teach children ages 3 to 5 about units of money, the value of familiar items, when to spend, save and share, and the difference between needs and wants.
For her Gold project, Jesse worked with Family Scholar House, a Louisville-area education program that works to end the cycle of poverty by giving single-parent students the support they need to achieve a four-year college degree. Jesse taught classes and held a workshop for young children of FSH students through the initiative’s Children of Change program. She created materials to help parents reinforce Money Matters lessons at home. She also provided FSH with materials volunteers can use to replicate the program for future classes.
