Saturday Morning with the Horses
Date & Time
8:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.
Sponsored by: Kentucky Derby Museum
Who should attend: Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors
We’ll begin our morning trackside at Churchill Downs, watching Thoroughbreds work out on the legendary Churchill Downs racetrack. Then we’ll tour the grandstand and clubhouse before heading back to the museum, where each scout will be given a famous racehorse to research in our two floors of interactive exhibits. Then it’s down to the William Ray Gallery to participate in a 30 minute program about career possibilities in the equine industry. Each scout will then present information about their researched horse, before we go out to the museum’s barn to meet Alison Knight, the museum’s stable manager. Alison will speak about grooming thoroughbreds as well as answer any questions the scouts might have. Our morning concludes with a viewing of the museum’s award winning 360 movie “The Greatest Race”. These activities will satisfy the requirements for the Derby Museum’s fun patch, which will be awarded after the movie.
Cost: $5.00 per scout. One adult free for every scout, all others regular museum admission.
