A Cappella Festival of Kentuckiana
Date & Time
8:30 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. (show begins at 7:30 p.m.)
Sponsored by: Pride of Kentucky Chorus
Who should attend: Teens who love to sing!
The A Cappella Festival of Kentuckiana (October 26, 2013) is a GREAT opportunity for teens (grades 8-12) to sing and learn about four-part a cappella harmony under the direction of skilled chorus directors and other vocalists. In just one day, you'll get a big dose of vocal music education, rehearsals, and coaching from local experts. You'll learn harmony basics, singing technique, choreography, and performance skills. On Saturday night, you'll star in a show with other award-winning choruses and singers--a show that is free for your family and friends. Best of all, you'll meet and have fun with other young women and men who love to sing, just like you do!
The Festival will be an all day event, and all sessions and the show will be at The Clifton Center (Louisville, KY). You'll learn music in the barbershop style, America's unique vocal art form, that is a fine training ground for all types of a cappella singing. The unique sound of barbershop can be applied to all types of music--contemporary hits, show tunes, country music, oldies, spirituals, patriotic music, and more.
Once you register for the Festival, you'll receive info on how to download sheet music and learning tracks for two songs. You'll sing one of these songs with the young women's or young men's chorus, and one song will be sung by the combined coed chorus. You'll need to learn these songs in a voice part of your choice before you come to the Festival so our time together can focus on learning performance-related skills instead of just notes and words. Register early so you'll have plenty of time to learn your music! Registrations will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis. Your $50 registration fee will include your music, music instruction, meals and snacks, and a T-shirt. A limited amount of needs-based financial aid will be available.
