Saturday September 28th 10:00-4:00 admission will be free at Wickliffe Mounds State Historic Site
In recognition, Wickliffe Mounds State Historic Site will feature special exhibits about archaeology and the importance of preserving sites such as Wickliffe Mounds, a site that has been open to the public since 1932. The important scholarly research conducted at Wickliffe Mounds has contributed significant information to the study of Mississippian culture, the science of archaeology and knowledge of Kentucky's prehistory as well as providing educational resources for teachers, students and site visitors.
Wickliffe Mounds has valuable educational potential and is worthy of protection and preservation. A highlight of the sites' history was the reburial of remains and restoration of the Mississippian burial mound in 2011.

The site is operated by the Kentucky Department of Parks and is a State Historic Site. The park will host an Open House from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and visitors are invited to view the museum exhibits and participate in a meeting calling for the formation of a Friends of Wickliffe Mounds group. The meeting will be at 1:30 in the afternoon.
The Open House is held in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institution's Museum Free Day (http://www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/) and there will be free admission to the site and museum for the event.
