The Girls' World Forum is the third and final event in a series of forums that are part of the WAGGGS' global centenary celebrations.  The World Forums, hosted by Girl Guiding UK in 2010 and the World Centers in 2011, have already engaged over 250 young women in discussions of the WAGGGS Global Action Theme, girls worldwide say, "Together We Can Change Our World," which address the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

GWF 2012 will focus on three millennium goals:  MDG 1:  to end poverty and hunger, MDG 3:  to promote gender equality and empower women, and MDG 7:  to achieve environmental sustainability.  The Forum will include the following elements:

  • Exchange with external partners
  • Develop advocacy, leadership & communication skills
  • Identify viable solutions to MDG issues and incorporate them into designs of personal action plans
  • Participate in local take action projects
  • Review and incorporate Member Organizations 2010 and 2011 Forum action plans
  • Centenary celebrations

Each Girl Scout Council and WAGGGS Member Organization is invited to register two girls and a young adult chaperone to attend Girls' World Forum.  Specifically, we are looking for girls who are:

  • Ages 14 - 18 at the time of the Forum
  • Actively engaged in their Girl Scout Council
  • Interested in the United Nations MDGs
  • Willing to develop skills and networks to bring about change in their community and country
  • Fluent in English, Arabic, French or Spanish (to contribute and benefit fully from the Forum)

A young volunteer ages (18 - 30) to serve as chaperone for the selected girl delegates.

The cost to attend the Girls' World Forum is $650 per person and does not include transportation to or from Chicago.

Interested girls and adults should complete the attached application and return it to Jennifer Court at jcourt@kyanags.org or Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, PO Box 32335, Louisville, KY  40232-2335, ATTN:  Jennifer Court.  Application deadline:  February 20th.

Please note, if you apply and are accepted as a delegate to the Forum, the registration fee will be due immediately upon acceptance and must be paid in full by March 1st.
