Join Kentucky’s First Lady Jane Beshear and Kroger, along with the Kentucky Commission on Women, the Kentucky Federation of Women's club, the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana and the Girl Scouts of Kentucky Wilderness Road Council and STAND UP against Domestic Violence.
The two Girl Scout Councils of Kentucky are invited to help First Lady Jane Beshear with her service project for the Kentucky Domestic Violence Shelters. This is a joint initiative of the First Lady’s Office, the Girl Scout Councils of Kentucky and Kroger stores.
The Kentucky Domestic Violence Association serves over 27,000 men, women and children annually, in both residential and non-residential settings. Currently there are 15 domestic violence shelters that serve the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The First Lady’s service project, Shop and Share, provides much needed resources to assist shelters in supporting victims and their children.
How to get involved?
Girl Scout troops are urged to volunteer at the local Kroger stores in her community to help collect donated items between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm. Each shelter has provided the First Lady’s office with a list of needed items, such as, canned foods, toilet paper, soap, etc. Before the event, the First Lady’s office will send a packet to each Kroger store containing “shopping lists” for that shelter that can be provided to shoppers. Lists will also be available online. Please do not contact Kroger stores directly. General information can be found on the 100th resource page.
VOLUNTEERS
Visit the volunteer sign-up page: http://firstlady.ky.gov/Pages/shopshare.aspx to sign up for a time slot. Volunteer hours are in 2 hour time slots with 4 slots each. Most Kroger stores have 2 doors. If you are bringing a troop of 4 girls or more – sign up for all 4 spots and cover both doors. If you are a small troop or an individual – just sign up for one or two spots at one door.
Note:
When you go to the website, you must register with your email address. To volunteer at a Kroger store in Louisville and the surrounding area please email Tamara Reif at Tamara.Reif@cwfempower.org. For areas outside of Louisville click link below the Kentucky map for your region. Regrettably, volunteer hours are only available in Kroger stores in the state of Kentucky.
Please be patient as the link is very slow. Once the page loads, you will see all of the participating Kroger stores listed. Make your selection and click the sign up button. Be sure to confirm before you close the browser page.
Patch
The Kroger Company is providing a free patch for each girl who participates in this very worthwhile service project for our state. To receive your patch, please complete the evaluation and free patch
order form and return to the Council after the service project. Patches may be picked up from your service center after the event.
